I won't be listening to this whole special trying to figure out what they left in and what they edited out. What I'll have posted here each day will be wherever they start that day's edited down version of this special. I'll link to my archives of the 4 acts if you're interested in seeing what they covered. Here are links to the original four parts of The History of Howard Stern:
Today's show was an edited down day 1 and 2 of the 2007 Act I.
Brian said he can't get past the ''Don't be stupid you moron.'' He said you say it to your friends and it becomes part of your vernacular. He said everyone wants to say that to their kid at some point. He said these days you can't even say ''don't.''
Jon said that Howard said that this went on in his life but they didn't know it was true until they heard the tapes. Gary said when you hear Howard back then you can hear that he may have been a little bit of a pain in the neck.
Jon said that kind of upbringing doesn't leave you. Brian said that Howard has the ability to remember it, process it and then bring it to us to make you think you're living it with him. Gary said he knows that Roosevelt was as bad as Howard said it was. He said it was like ''don't go that way'' when he was growing up. Jon said that he moved to Rockville Center and it got worse. Brian said it's like Howard's own Super Hero origin story. He said he got the microphone and that was his super power. He said that's what day one is. Jon said you get a taste of what Howard did at Boston University too. He said they talked about the acid trip Howard took too.
Jon said they heard some of Howard's early days on radio and how different his voice was. He was on WRNW and at Boston University. Gary said that Howard didn't give a shit about the music and this other guy was probably trying to get out. He said he was over annunciating and he was just trying to fit in. Jon said Howard says that he was horrible early on. He said when you hear those songs that's what it was like back then. He said they were playing music. He said people weren't talking like Howard eventually did. Brian said when Howard is doing his thing and talking in that higher voice in the movie it was really incredible.
Gary said that he worked at WLIR and the people there really lived the lief. He said Howard was going to bed instead of going out.
Jon said Howard goes to WCCC and meets Fred Norris and he starts building a following. Jon said Howard was in Detroit and he didn't fit in. then they change formats and Howard becomes a DJ at a country station. He said he thought that was one of the funniest parts of the movie.
Jon said everything was a battle for Howard. He said that it stayed that way until he got to K-Rock. Brian said he had his battles there too. Gary said there are still some battles going on right now. He asked if they think he needs that to keep going. Jon said that he might need that. He said that helped fuel his fire back then but he may not need it as much now. Jon said he's not the guy who he'd want to get into a fight with. Gary said he knows that but he keeps doing it. Jon said today was the early years and they will soon move on to DC and K-Rock and all of that. Jon got in a plug for today's Sternthology and mentioned that Irene the Leather Weather Lady will be in that. Jon and Gary talked about her for a minute. Jon said that it's been one hell of a ride so far. Brian said Howard has been part of his life since he was 16 years old. Jon gave Brian some plugs and ended the show around 12:10pm.

Jon asked Gary about how he got on the show originally. Gary said he was driving the N-car for a while and he was on the show for the first time. Gary said he had a really thick accent back then and he was very meek. He said he was surprised that Howard wanted to talk to him on the air.
Jon asked Gary how Robin and Fred treated him. Gary said Robin was on the other side of the building. He said he didn't interact with her that much.
Jon said today was the first naked girl in the studio too. Gary said that he was there for that and he helped out and ever since then he's had Howard's back.
Jon said that this was also the firing from NBC. Gary said no one saw that coming. He said it really did come out of nowhere. He said the fighting with management just seemed to be like a normal thing that day. Gary said Robin was the first one to be fired. He said he handed her some things to sign and she flung them at a wall. He said Howard walked in a few minutes later and he was very calm. He said Howard's agent showed up and said it was the best thing that has happened to Howard. Gary said they had champagne that day too.
Jon said today is a great day for the History of Howard Stern. He got in some plugs for today's Sternthology and wrapped up the show. They were done around 12:15pm.

Sour Shoes was sitting in as Gary number 2 so Jon got some thoughts from him about those days. Sour Gary was talking about coming in around 11 or 12 so he could sleep until ''noine'' or 10 o'clock. Sour said they got used to it and they had to be on to make their mark.
Real Gary said that it sucked starting in the mornings. He said that they had to change their sleep schedules. Gary said it was a huge change for a 23 year old guy who was single. He said no one that age goes to bed at 8 at night.
Jon said that Scott Salem and Jackie also joined the show. Jon said Scott is still there doing his thing. Gary said they heard that he was good and he was available. Gary said Scott had been around for a while in the business. He said Jackie did work with them at WNBC too. He said eventually they just had him come in every day.
Jon asked Sour Gary about some WNBC stuff and Sour talked about it as if he were the real Gary. They were talking about the Harlem Shuffle and how they did that on the show. Sour Gary talked about Scott the Engineer. Real Gary said that he's freaking him out telling him these stories because that's just how it went down.
Jon said that Howard went to national syndication while they were at K-Rock. Gary said they were taping a show once a week and they were doing two shows in one day. He said that was amazing because Elton John did their show at the time.
Sour Gary told more stories about doing the live shows on the road. Real Gary said he's going to go get a beer. He said Sour can do this on his own.
Jon asked Real Gary about Howard going on Arsenio Hall. Gary told some stories about that and his cousin was here and she looked at him like he was a criminal after that appearance.
Jon asked Sour Gary about falling asleep on the flight home from L.A. Sour Gary told Jon about what was going on with that and said he thinks it must have been an hour into the flight that he fell asleep. He said Howard was winded from doing the show. He said he thought he was doing him a favor by falling asleep. He said it was a ''noine'' hour flight. Real Gary said that the only thing he's guilty of is sleeping between the hours of midnight and 6am. Jon wrapped up the show after that. They were done around 11:20am.

Jon said they also heard Stuttering John's first interview in that show. Gary said they were scary. He said he doesn't like the feeling of going up to someone and busting their balls. He said he used to do that himself and it's scary. Gary said it's really hard to do that. He said he interviewed Diane Carol once and it was really hard. He said Stuttering John came by and they sent him out to do that stuff. He said his talent was being fearless. He said he didn't give a shit when someone would yell at him. He said John could care less about that. Jon said he thrived doing it. Gary said he did.
Jon said Billy West also came along during that time. Gary said he was so animated when he did his voices. He said that he could do so many voices and he took those characters on. Gary said if you don't know who he is you should go look him up. He said he's done voices in commercials and TV shows and he's sure you've heard him.
Jon asked Gary if he has the trophy from the tennis match. Gary said of course he does. He said it's in his office.
Jon said the show also came to TV with the channel 9 show. Jon said he remembers the show beating Saturday Night Live. Gary said it took them a while to get there. He said he thought it was going to change his life being on TV. He said he had a party with friends the first night. He said he went out the next day expecting to be recognized but he wasn't. He said the surprising thing was that once it did take off that was the show that was really cutting edge. He said people like Jonah Hill were watching that out in L.A. at the time.
Gary said they used to shoot the show in the afternoon on Friday and Howard would spend Saturday editing it. He said it was a crazy schedule.
Jon said they also played the segment where Gary got his nickname. Gary said he never thought in a million years that it would stick or that anyone would give a shit. Jon asked when he started taking pride in it. Gary said it was fairly early on. He said it wasn't the next day or anything. He said he thought that it would go away. It eventually took on a life of its own. He said they put out the Crucified by the FCC box set and they had a booklet in it. He said when he opened that up and the number 1 popular phrase on the show list was ''Baba Booey'' so he knew it was going to be a big deal. Gary said he doesn't know why people yell it out at golf games but it is a fun thing to do. They wrapped up after that. They were done around 11:45am.

Gary said people thought that they were going to fail because of the time difference. Gary said he knew something was up out there early on because he was at a friend's house and he had a friend who parked cars at a hotel in L.A. and he said almost all of the cars that came in were tuned to the station Howard was on.
Jon said that Howard had Gary repeating after him a lot in those days. Gary said he never liked that. He said he thinks he got so old that it got embarrassing and Howard eventually stopped. He said he's not sure exactly why it went away.
Jon said they also lost Sam Kinison and had that in the show toady. Gary said the biggest thing about Sam is that he's not remembered for being as great as he really was. He said he was truly a very funny guy. He said there was nothing he wouldn't tackle. He said he thinks he should be remembered in a more memorable way.
Jon said they also had the time Howard showed his ass at the MTV VMA awards as Fartman. Gary said some guys were going to kick his ass if they saw him back stage. He said that Sammy Hagar was one and now Sammy loves Howard.
Jon wondered if Howard would ever put that Fartman suit on again. Gary said probably not unless there was a movie with a flashback scene.
Jon said they ended the show with the L.A. funeral. Gary said that was a big funeral. He said they brought out everyone they could out there. He said it was one of the best funerals. Jon asked how crazy those things got. Gary said just going to the market was a big deal. He said they would bring people out and perform song parodies and things like that. He said the fans wanted to be there to celebrate with them.
Jon asked how crazy it was to set something like that up. Gary said it was tough back then because it was basically just him and Stuttering John doing it.
Jon said the show was on a roll and the FCC steps in and issues some fines for indecency. Gary said he's not sure what they were even for. He said they were fined a lot and they felt that was their way of stopping Howard from spreading around the country. Gary said when you hear the show from back then you hear that the show had heart and it was smart funny. He said the people who didn't listen just called him a shock jock.
Jon said when the show came into a market it was a big deal. He said that it has to be flattering to Gary when the fans stick with you once they went on there.
Jon said back then it was tough getting interviews but now people are lining up to be interviewed by Howard. Gary said some people just hear the show once and hear something they didn't like. He said he tells them they have to listen to more than one show.
Jon got in a plug for today's Sternthology and ended the show a short time later. They were done around 11:25am.
