Howard Talks About His Separation From His Wife. 10/25/99. 6:10am
For those of you who haven't heard yet, Howard and his wife have legally separated. He's not divorced, just separated. A lot of people thought he wouldn't show up to work this morning but he started off the show saying that he's not in seclusion and ''All broads.. please call...'' He told Robin she'd be in charge of the line of women. That was the easy part for Howard to say. He soon went on to explain how hard this has been for both he and his wife Alison. He said the whole weekend was a nightmare. He spent the weekend telling people about what was going on and actually crying. He said he hadn't cried since college and he finally shed some tears this weekend. He said he spoke to Robin over the weekend but he didn't hear from Jackie or Fred. Robin also shed some tears when she found out about all of this. Howard said that he and Alison aren't fighting over all of this, it's an amicable split. He actually spent more time with Alison over the weekend than he has in recent months. He had a party to attend and he went with his wife. He said that his father-in-law told him that he will always be his son-in-law. Howard explained that being ''legally separated'' means that they're no longer a married couple but they're not divorced. He and Alison went through a mediator to work out the details instead of letting a lawyer drain them of every last cent.
The reason for the split? - Howard said that his ''workaholic'' attitude has a lot to do with it. The people who are speculating that it was all of the strippers and bare breasted chicks in the studio are wrong. Howard has a lot of things going on and he wasn't spending a lot of time doing things with Alison and that led to this. The two of them have been in marriage counseling for the past year but that wasn't working. This separation was still up in the air just a few short days ago. They finally decided to do it and had their spokesperson Dan Klores make the announcement Friday night.
Howard said that he and Alison decided that they need a break and he hopes that they can eventually work things out. He says that she's still the best friend he has and no one is closer to him.
Howard read a bunch of articles that were written about the situation and he said only one guy, Joel Block, got the picture. Block said that the problem was with intimacy. Howard said that's basically right.
Bloated Attorney Dominic Barbara called in and said this whole thing is very surreal and he's very saddened by it. John Popper of Blues Traveler also called in later in the morning and said that he just found out about it and was also saddened by it.
This separation sent shock waves through other relationships on the show. Stuttering John and his wife had an argument over it and Gary had a little run in with his wife after she overheard him talking to Howard on the phone. A lot of articles are saying that this break-up will have a chain reaction causing many relationships to break up. Howard has always bragged about being married to his wife so long and now it's all gone up in smoke. People are speculating that many couples will have second thoughts about their relationships. Many people thought that Howard would never get separated from Alison. Now that the unbreakable force has been broken, others may follow.
Rabbi Shmuley Boteach Comes In. 10/25/99. 8:25am
Who the hell is Shmuley Boteach? Howard had this guy in this morning because he's the one who recently brought Michael Jackson to temple to expose him to Jewish Music. Shmuley is an orthodox Jew so Howard said that in the dictionary there's a picture of him. The guy came in and rambled on about some nonsense and Howard tried to get some info out of him but it wasn't working too well. He did talk about how he met Michael Jackson. He spent some time with him at his home in New York. Since Howard was still frazzled by the whole separation thing he couldn't deal with Shmuley's boring story so he had to move on. Every phone call he took was about his separation so he spent part of Shmuley's segment talking about that instead. He did let Shmuley get a couple of plugs in. He has a book called ''Kosher Sex : A Recipe for Passion and Intimacy'' and a web site at LoveProphet.com. He also mentioned that he's written a book with psychic Uri Geller. That book, ''Confessions of a Rabbi and a Psychic'', will be out next year. Uri is the one who introduced him to Michael Jackson.
More Talk About The Separation. 10/25/99. 8:50am
Most of the show today was about Howard and his separation. He said that he was repeating himself but he wanted to get his thoughts out to everyone listening so that they won't think he's hiding from the situation. Most of the phone callers were supporting Howard but there were a couple of people who goofed on him and told him he was making a mistake. Some people even think that this is a hoax to get ratings! Some people suggested that Howard should quit radio to make his marriage work. Howard said that would make him more miserable and it's not the answer. Phony phone caller Captain Janks called in to ask Howard a question at one point. He asked him if he now feels sorry for Larry King who's been divorced 8 times or so. Howard said that's a whole other story. He thinks there's something really wrong with King if he'd put himself through that more than once.
Intern Maria Is Devastated By Howard's Separation. 10/25/99. 9:10am
Robin's news intern Maria was very upset when she heard about Howard's break up. Robin said Maria was going crazy this morning wondering why Howard had to do this and make the announcement. Howard had her come in to talk about it. Maria said she's very disillusioned over marriage because her boyfriend acts the same way that Howard describes himself. She said he sits on the computer for hours at a time and ignores her just like Howard did to his wife. She's only 21 so Howard said that she needs to date more guys to figure out what she likes and dislikes. While Maria was in Howard took a call from a woman who was crying over the situation. She also said she's disillusioned over it all. Howard said that he thought he was above something like this but obviously it can happen to anyone. The women said that he was a role model for marriage. Robin said maybe he'll become the ''separation role model'' now. Howard's old friend Wayne Segal from Legend Porsche Audi in Amityville, New York called in to tell him that things will get better over time. He actually said that things will get ''great'' for him after a while. Wayne knows because he did the same thing with his wife. He told Howard that he can talk to him about it anytime but Howard said he's not going to do that.

Howard Sick Over Separation. 10/26/99. 6:10am
Howard is literally sick with a cold because of all of the stress he's under. Late in the show yesterday he had started to get a sore throat and this morning it turned into a full blown cold. He also explained how he was chased around the city by photographers yesterday after the show. That added to the stress. He explained everything on the air during the show yesterday but everyone still wants to interview him about everything. Some news programs are reporting that Howard is getting ready for a big fight with his wife over everything. They say he's hired a divorce attorney.. None of that is true according to Howard. He said they've already settled their financial situation and they don't have anything to fight over. He said his daughter freaked out when she heard that so he had to calm her down. He's been getting phone calls from celebrity friends such as Sandra Bernhard and Jessica Hahn. Howard said he hasn't been able to sleep either. He said he was up weeping and crying during the night last night.
Melrose Larry Calls In With Tape Of ''The View.'' 10/26/99. 7:10am
Melrose Larry Green called in with some tape of the TV show ''The View'' because the women were ragging on Howard. Melrose played the 3 minute segment where they spoke about Howard's break up and Howard sat silent during it. After that he went off on the hosts Star Jones and Barbara Walters. He brought up how fat and ugly Star Jones is and how Barbara Walters is just an old, stinky, skank. He went off on them for as long as he could with his voice being shot due to his cold. The one woman on the show he didn't go off on was the ''Chinese broad'' who brought Howard's name up in the first place. She did say that yesterday's show as boring but she also said she listens every morning. Howard had other reports about his separation that he played at various points during the rest of the show.
Howard Not Really A Workaholic? 10/26/99. 8:00am
While Howard was listening to one of the many reports about his separation, he heard the reporter say that his marriage was stressed because he was a workaholic. That was the way Howard described himself yesterday on the show. Today he said ''Yeah, look at what I'm working on..'' Meaning his goofy radio show. He said he'd like to clarify what he meant yesterday. What he meant to say was that he's a recluse, not a workaholic. He would go home, sit in his basement and watch TV while his family was upstairs. Then he'd tell his wife that he was researching the TV shows to see what his audience was watching.. which is a load of crap according to Howard.
Chicks Ready To Get Naked For Bush. 10/26/99. 8:40am
Two young women came in this morning to meet the band Bush when they come in later in the morning. An 18 year old and a 19 year old both came in and agreed to get naked and dance while the band performs a song. Howard had them come in before Bush came in so he could meet them. Both of them aren't thrilled about getting naked and Howard said they looked really young. He wasn't sure if he wanted to see them naked so he broke down and said they should just get in bathing suits. Even that wasn't too thrilling for them. They both hate their bodies and one of them said she has a ''cottage cheese'' ass that she doesn't want to show everyone. The girls said that they've been following Bush around since 1994 and have been to 10 concerts.
Bush Performs Live. 10/26/99. 8:55am
Rock band Bush came in this morning to perform their latest hit song ''The Chemicals Between Us'' from their new album ''The Science of Things'' which just came out today. Howard had the guys come in and he wanted to interview them but they were all set to play their song. The microphones had some echo on them so it was hard to talk to them. Howard also had the young girls come in to dance in their bathing suits. The guys from Bush said they were prepared to have dancing girls in the studio so it came as no surprise to them. The girls were talking to Howard and the band and all of a sudden they went into their song so Howard told the girls to shut up and dance. Bush went on to do an excellent live version of their song ''The Chemicals Between Us.'' The mix seemed to be better than usual but it was also coming over a little distorted on my radio. After the song the guys sat down on the couch so Howard could talk to them for a few minutes. Howard tossed the girls out of the studio but they got hugs and kisses from the band as they left. Howard said it looked like a receiving line as they left. Howard talked a little bit about his separation with the guys. He also asked the lead singer Gavin about his current girlfriend Gwen Stefani of the band No Doubt. Gavin said ''I think so'' when Howard asked if he was still with Gwen. The two of them don't get to see each other much because their schedules don't make it easy. Howard also heard that he banged Courtney Love of Hole. Gavin said he really didn't want to talk about it though. Howard said he pictured Courtney in certain positions with Gavin but he still wasn't talking. Gavin said Howard could experience it himself now that he's separated from Alison. Howard took a bunch of phone calls for the guys and there was one guy who really hates Gavin for some reason. He called him a ''pussy'' and wished that he'd die for some reason. There were a bunch of other people who kissed the band's ass to make up for the rude caller. The guys said that they'll be touring in early 2000. Howard asked them who they want to tour with and suggested ''The Backside Boys'' but didn't play any of their music for them. Gavin said that he really likes a band called Underworld and said he's going to ask them to open up for them.
Two Celebrities Call In To Console Howard. 10/26/99. 9:35am
Comedian/actor Sandra Bernhard called in to talk to Howard about his separation. She told Howard that he should go out with her and have some fun now. Howard told her to call him off the air to console him instead of doing it on the air. He only spoke to her for a couple of minutes. Right after that call Richard Belzer called in. He told Howard that his thoughts are with him and his wife. He also said that they should hang out together sometime. Belzer said he's been through two divorces himself. After the call with Belzer Howard said he now has two new friends and then gave an ''Uhccch'' to it. He said he's not going out with anyone. He just hates the idea of going out and if he was going to go out with anyone he would have done it with his wife. He wasn't even able to do that.
Howard Number 1 In St. Louis. 10/26/99. 9:45am
Finally some good news for Howard. A listener called in with a newspaper article from St. Louis. He told Howard that the article pointed out that he's number one in that market for the summer Arbitron ratings period. He came in with a 10.9 in the 18-34 year old male demographic.

Howard's cold finally got the best of him. He was losing his voice yesterday during the show and he didn't come in today so they played ''Best Of'' instead. Here's what we heard:
